ben came to Japan in 1981 as an assistant architect for masayuki kurokawa. this was followed by three years at the tokyo institute of technology under a scholarship program from the japanese ministry of education where he graduated with a masters degree in 1987. ben returned to london and joined the richard rogers partnership (now rogers stirk harbour + partners) in 1988.
returning to japan to set up rrp, ben has won and completed such projects as virtual reality laboratories in gifu, amano research laboratories in gifu, the minami yamashiro elementary school in kyoto and the national institute for policy studies in tokyo.
ben founded cdi in 1993 and has been successful in tendering and winning more that 50 projects in asia. among recent acclaimed buildings are the iceberg (tokyo), the zara building (tokyo) and seoul national university sports complex (korea).
ben is a trustee of the british school in tokyo and is a visiting lecturer at the tokyo institute of technology and niigata university.
